This is Golfer Geeks’ review of the Titleist 620 MB Irons.

I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

I tested the 620 MBs over the course of 2 weeks, both on the course and on the range. I was fighting my swing a bit but managed to get around the course fine them.

Summary: The 620 MB irons deliver exactly what you buy them for. They are precision irons meant to play shots and deliver consistent results. I wouldn’t call them forgiving,  but I wouldn’t call them harsh either. You get what you give. You’ll love these if you love playing blades. If you’re in the market, they deserve a thorough testing on your part, at the least.

In this Titleist 620 MB Irons review, I discuss my experience with the clubs, unique features and benefits, as well as customer reviews and potential alternatives.

Titleist 620 MB Irons Overview & Why You Should Consider them

These are for the golfing purist. Heck, even most Titleist pros don’t play the MBs. There’s no perimeter weighting. There’s no tungsten in the sole to help with launch and increase MOI. The lofts are old-school and weaker than most (if not any) other irons on the market. It’s just you and what you bring to the party.

If you have to have blades and you want to play blades from the company that sets the standard for them, then give these a try. Strong ball strikers will get along well with them, but you need to be an elite ball striker to derive ALL the benefits of such clubs.

Features & Benefits of the 620 MBs

Titleist 620 MB Iron Set
  • Classic compact muscle back head forged from one piece of 1025 carbon steel
  • Refined sole for superior turf interaction
  • Minimal offset and thin topline to appeal to the purist’s eyes
  • Consistent 4-degree gapping just like the 620 CBs so the sets can be mixed and matched.

My Experience with & Review of the Titleist 620 MB Irons

Titleist 620 MB Irons & Golfer Geek post Impact

My first experience with the MBs was on the course after a brief warm-up on the range. Not ideal for irons that demand my best. I hit a buunch of thin, a few thick shots, and one or two between the screws.

I was surprised to get decent results on many of my mishits. I was expecting harshness and punishment – at least a little bit. Not really the case.

I didn’t get to experience what hitting crisp shots with world-class blades feels and performs like. Because I didn’t deserve to.

I played a round – more like parts of a round – the next day. My ball striking improved just a tad. Problem for me was that I was recovering most of the round from bad drives which involved a lot of punch shots out of the woods.

I’ve had one range session at this point. Images from this page are from that session. I found a little something on the range and striped quite a few good shots.

Looks: (B+) A little to minimal for me. As blade as a blade can look. Super clean and minimal. But, I found them pleasing to look down on at address. The head is compact, as you would expect. But not especially intimidating. The topline and sole are thin, again, as you would expect. Offset is minimal. There are no surprises here.

Sound/ Feel: (B+) Not quite as good at the 620 CBs. Impact is soft, yet solid. There’s a pleasing “click” at impact on solid shots (which were a little too rare in my time with them).

Distance: (B+) Pleasantly surprised. Not why you buy these blades, but well struck shots get out there with the best of the non-performance (distance) player irons. And, even pretty close to the distance irons. You’re going to need to be familiar with the sweet spot.

Forgiveness: (B) Probably a little better than what you expect. Again, you don’t get blades for their forgiveness. But…I didn’t find them harsh on small mishits – which is my standard contact.

Flight / Playability: (A) Delivered. This IS why you buy blades. They’re for shot makers. They’ll deliver if you’ve got the skills.

Customer Reviews

The MBs are highly rated by their owners. I figure whoever buys them knows what they’re getting into and would feel silly complaining.

I’ve found no complaints about the clubs themselves. ALL complaints I’ve seen are about shipping times, shipping boxes, and non-club-related stuff.

Who are the 620 MBs for?

Low Handicap: (Yes) Know what you’re getting into and you’ll be well-satisfied. Check out the Titleist 620 CBs if the same playing characteristics in a more forgiving compact cavity back iron.

Mid Handicap: (No) Skip these and take a look at the T200s, T300s, or even the T100s (maybe)

High Handicap: (You know better)

Our Verdict on Titleist 620 MB Irons

The 620 MBs deliver exactly what you expect and buy them for, with a touch more forgiveness and less harshness than what I expected.

My #1 suggestion is to test them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
