This is Golfer Geeks’ Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons review.
I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6), and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
I had the JPX 923 Forged irons for 2 weeks. In that time I had them on the range 2-3 times, played a couple of rounds, and spent a little time on Garmin R10 launch monitor with them.
Summary: Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons offer exceptional performance in every category. They’re sleeker, more compact, more forgiving, and longer than the JPX 921s. All while maintaining the exceptional feel Mizuno irons are known for. Put them on your list to test if you’re in the market.
In this review of the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons, I discuss my experience with the clubs, unique features and benefits, as well as customer reviews and potential alternatives.

Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons Overview
The JPX 923 Forged irons represent Mizuno’s third generation of Chromoly forging (4-iron through 7-iron).
- They reduced face thickness from 2.6 mm for the 921s to 2.2 mm for the 923s.
- This allowed Mizuno to reduce the clubhead profile and achieve faster ball speeds across the face.
The 8-iron through gap wedge are milled from 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel, are more compact than the JPX 921s.
Why Consider the JPX 923 Forged irons
First, they excel in every performance category:
- Distance
- Forgiveness
- Trajectory
- Workability/Playability/Consistency
And, they’ve still got the best feel in golf.
Mizuno says they’re suitable for pro to mid-handicaps. Playability-wise, definitely. They do everything accomplished players want an iron to do and are absolutely loaded with forgiveness. (I think elite low handicaps and, especially pros, might prefer smaller clubheads)

My Experience with the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons
First, I could easily hit these irons every day. Sadly, it didn’t take me long to figure out they were amazing. Honestly, I knew this would be the case.
I was surprised by the added distance compared to the JPX 921s. Most notably in the long irons. Nothing crazy, but longer.
I played my rounds in the howling wind here in Houston. Time and again I flew them 5-10 yards more than I anticipated into the wind…and dead straight for amazing consistency.
I was able to hit my normal high draw or flight them down at will. Exactly what I want in my irons.
Review of the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons
Looks: (A+) Mizuno nailed it. From admiring them in your bag to looking down at them at address.
Sound/ Feel: (A+++++) Exceptional.
Distance: ( A++) The JPX 921s were plenty long. I think the JPX 923s are longer by half a club or more.
Forgiveness: (A+) Exceptional. Nowhere more apparent than the long irons.
Flight / Playability: (A+) You can launch them any way you want. Default is high and straight, but you can flight them, turn them, take distance off…anything.
Value: (A) ~$187/club – They’re priced with the big boys, but you get ALL the performance you could ask for.

Our Verdict on the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons
Phenomenal feeling, performing, and looking golf clubs. They’re not a significant upgrade over the JPX 921s, but they are an upgrade.
- Sleeker more refined clubhead – smaller profile.
- More forgiving & longer.
They
They’re perfect if you’re nearing a single-digit handicap or are somewhere in the mid-single digits.
Should you buy the 923 Forged irons if you own the 921 Forged irons?
Eh…I would consider it, but it’s not a lock. See below for my #1 suggestion.
My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
