This is Golfer Geeks’ PrimePutt putting mat review.

I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6), and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

I’ve had the PrimePutt XXL putting mat for about a year or so. I putted on it daily for a couple of weeks, comparing it to my favorite putting mats. I broke it out again to retest for this review.

Summary: Good, but not great roll. Putting on the PrimePutt reminds me of putting on the greens at my local golf course. I have to put a good stroke on the ball to keep it online and moving toward the hole. Or minor imperfections send it off line.

In this review of the PrimePutt mat, I discuss my experience with it, its unique features, and benefits.

What’s in the box?

  1. PrimePutt putting mat with 3 hole cutouts.
  2. Solid wood backstop.
  3. 3 Cups to fit in hole cutouts.

Keep the box. You can roll the mat back up and stick it back in there for easy storage.

Setting Up Your PrimePutt

PrimePutt-backstop-and-cups

Simple – take it out of the box and unroll it on the floor. There’s minimal rolling up of the ends, and, with time, they will flatten out just fine.

Place the wooden backstop behind the hole cutouts and align the rubber stoppers embedded in the mat with the indentations in the bottom of the wooden backstop.

Slide the cups into the hole cutouts.

Putt.

My Experience with the PrimePutt Putting Mat

The PrimePutt has a tall task. It has to compete with my favorite putting mats – Wellputt. I’m spoiled by Wellputt’s perfect roll, built-in training aids, and app with over 50 putting games.

That said, PrimePutt mats acquit themselves well.

I’ve been putting on the PrimePutt on and off for about a year or so. I’ve got the X-large version and I don’t have a ton of room. So, I’ve got to put it away when I’m done with it.

I liken it to putting at the golf course I used to belong to – Longwood. The greens generally ran well, but they ran slow and there were imperfections. You had to putt aggressively to keep your ball on line and to get it to the hole.

In this case, the PrimePutt is the perfect mat. I think it does a good job of making you make an assertive stroke. And, if you putt on it often and ingrain this, you’ll putt really well on the average local golf course.

But, I think you may be in a little trouble if you play on fast greens. Personally, I never want to learn to putt well on slow greens. I’ll be, and have been, helpless on slick greens. This is not a great feeling.

They were created by an engineer and golf nut. The material is high quality, durable, and gorgeous.

The putting cups are made to react like a real cup in a green.

  • Hit your putt too hard – your ball jumps over the back of the cup.
  • Catch an edge without the correct speed – you’re looking at a lipout.

Just like on a real green for a realistic putting experience.

Missed putts that hit the backstop gently bounce back an inch or two instead of rebounding back into the putting area or rolling away on your floor.

I like the fact there are multiple size options for every budget and different size practice areas.

Possible PrimePutt Alternatives

Sorry, I like PrimePutt mats, but I’m a large believer in Wellputt.

Final Verdict on Our PrimePutt Putting Mat Review

PrimePutt cups and backstop

PrimePutt mats are our choice for realistic turf putting mats for your home.

The materials are high quality; they’re constructed well, and they are built to last. Plus, I’ve not seen a better-looking mat.

I prefer the roll of Wellputt mats, but PrimePutt isn’t far behind.

Thanks for checking out our PrimePutt putting mat review. Let us know if you got yours and how you like it.
