Taylormade P7MB Irons Review

This is Golfer Geeks’ 2023 Taylormade P7MB irons review.

I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6), and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

I had the P-7MBs for 2 weeks. I did the bulk of my testing on the course. I hit them a little in my backyard on my mat and launch monitor and a littler bit on the range at the course. (I joined a new course and I’m still getting used to their range and the best times to go)

Summary: Taylormade P-7MB irons are exactly as advertised. Supremely demanding. Supremely gorgeous. They’re made for the elite of the elite ball striker – Tour Pros. They’re the most demanding irons I’ve tested.

My Experience with the Taylormade P-7MB Irons

Humbling…a little. I have no problem saying a club is too much for me. Taylormade P-7MB irons are too much for me.

So that’s why I was only humbled a little instead of being crushed.

I put in a little work on my launch monitor and backyard hitting mat, but I got the main work on the course.

I found the middle of the fairway on the first hole with my driver.

I had about 165 yards in an pulled the 7-iron – my normal choice from that distance. .

I hit it a touch thin and missed the sweet spot on the toe side – typical for me and not bad by my standards. Club and a half short. I knew right away, the 7MBs are a different ballgame.

2nd hole – par 5. Mediocre drive means a layup of about 200 yards. I pulled the 4-iron and nearly shanked it. I hit all manner of bad shots – shanks aren’t one of them…until now (and later a couple times).

Honestly, this shook me a little. I proceeded to skull a wedge over the green into the junk.

I did manage to flush two shots I remember vividly. A pitching wedge from 129 yards from just right of the fairway in the first cut on the par-4 4th. Right over the flag. Felt great.

Then, the second shot on the par-5 6th hole – another layup. I flushed a 7-iron 174 yards, then wedged in. To my dismay – I didn’t repeat those heroics the rest of the round.

Conclusion – The Taylormade P-7MBs are too much club for me.

Review of the Taylormade P-7MB Irons

Looks: (A+) I think they’re the best looking clubs I’ve put my hands on. Elegant design. Sleek and compact clubhead.

Sound/ Feel: (B) Good sound and feel with solid impact.

Distance: (B) Like the P7MCs, they do what they’re designed for – go a prescribed distance consistently and no surprises. They’re not short, but you must bring the distance.

Forgiveness: (B) Exactly what you’d expect by this point in the review. They are not forgiving, but are exactly as forgiving as they’re designed to be. (Maybe that should be an “A” because they hit their mark)

Flight / Playability: (A) THIS is why you buy these irons. You can play any shot you have on any trajectory you have.   

Value: (A) ~$187/club (as of today) – On par with better-player clubs from other manufacturers.

Who are the P-7MB irons for?

Tour pros and soon-to-be tour pros. Maybe elite 1-handicap amateurs.

Potential Alternatives

Our Verdict on the Taylormade P7MB Irons Review

Elite player clubs meant for elite players. Taylormade made these for touring pros, but made them gorgeous so the rest of us would want to hit them too.

I suggest the rest of us seek life elsewhere. Don’t get these because you think you’ll play up to them.

Would I buy them? No, nonononononononononono. Waay too club much for me.

My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
